Nieke Koek (b. 1982, Roelofarendsveen) has always been fascinated by the human body. Her work is a poetic interpretation of the experience of the body, raising the everyday sensations to the level of art.
With body awareness as a starting point and through (theoretical) research, a diverse palette of works is realized.
The art works vary from performance to video installation, from wearable to sculpture an involve illustrative elements of the body in motion.
She isolates and enlarges sensations into conceptual, associative and perceptible situations.
The work is not an illustration of what the body can do, but it is examining the condition by which the experience of the body of the audience can be activated.
Nieke works with the (in)capacity of the human body.
Therefor she collaborates with healthcare institutions and individuals that have to deal with illness, death and rehabilitation

Nieke Koek (1982, Roelofarendsveen) is interdisciplinair kunstenaar.Ze is gefascineerd door de beleving van het lichaam als artistiek instrument.
Haar werken zijn vertalingen van alledaagse fysieke ervaringen, en ze verheft lichaams specifieke gebaren tot kunst.
Het werk van Nieke speelt direct in op de (onbewuste) lichaamsbeleving.
Haar werken tonen het lichaam in beweging en typeren zich als performatief, figuratief, kinetisch en illustratief.
De werken hebben aangetoond dat ze aanleiding geven om een bezoeker tot bewegen aan te zetten.
Soms minimaal, zoals alleen de beweging van het gezicht bij ‘Yellow’, maar ook het hele lichaam zoals bij ‘Axis’.
Het publiek reageert mentaal en ook fysiek op de kunstwerken.
De werken tonen niet alleen een lichaam in beweging maar vormen zo ook het gereedschap om het lichaam van de toeschouwer te activeren.
Sinds 2018 werkt ze regelmatig samen met zorgproffesionals waarbij de waarde van kunst wordt ingezet om tot nieuwe inzichten te komen. Daarbij wordt gewerkt met onderwerpen zoals pijn, de dood, ziekte en herstel.
